The Woodlands is a beautiful master-planned community located 32 miles (51 km) north of Houston, TX. Easily accessible via I-45, The Woodlands has become an economic epicenter for many businesses including Chevron Philips, Baker Hughes, Hewitt Associates, and many more. Blue Ox moving is proud to service this area, which is right in our own backyard! Here are a few things to consider when moving to The Woodlands.

The area that historically makes up The Woodlands was once occupied by the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Mill which is the namesake for some of the local neighborhoods, “Grogan’s Mill” and “Cochran Crossing. The Woodlands was dedicated by George P. Mitchell who wanted to create an area that would “entice city slickers looking for far-flung suburban quality of life.” Mitchell succeeded with what is still one of the fastest-growing communities in Texas.

Woodlands Economic Growth

The Woodlands is a vibrant community that is undergoing incredible economic expansion. In 2012 Woodland companies experienced record growth and added over 1,170 new jobs that year. Several companies are bringing new jobs to The Woodlands, including Layne Christensen, Nexeo Solutions, RPC, Waste Connections, Anadarko Petroleum, Repsol USA, Talisman Energy USA and CB&I.

Gil Staley, CEO of The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, said that “We’re in the best of times that we’ve seen in many years. We have jobs for every household. We have enough jobs for The Woodlands, Oak Ridge and Shenandoah. The jobs are here.”

Things to Do in the Woodlands

There is no shortage of things to do in the Woodlands. One of the most renowned locations in the area is the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. This outdoor concert area is surrounded by a lush forest and accommodates up to 16,500 people. A vast variety of artists have played in the arena ranging from Frank Sinatra and Alabama to Clint Black and Aerosmith.

The Waterway Square is a hip, upbeat urban district with fine dining, shopping and one of the most unique landmarks in the area, the Fountains at Waterway Square. This impressive collection of fountains dances to a synchronized display of lights and sounds.
